This October, Young Women Leaders Program held a community food drive in Charlottesville. All donations went to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, which serves food across our region. It was a great success and we ended up collecting almost 2,000 pounds of food!

The girls were so full of energy and confidence handing out flyers in front of Kroger. When asked about the purpose of the food drive, one of the Littles enthusiastically answered, “It was for the part of the community who needed food during the cold seasons.”

The more outgoing girls encouraged our quieter girls to reach out to people entering the stores. One Little from the Jouett 7th grade group commented that “leaders appreciate others and find value in everyone‛s effort.”

A real bond could be seen within each group. Not only did this food drive benefit the community, but the girls really got to experience how rewarding community service can be.
