Get to know our Marketing Communications intern, Maggie Whalen!
Hometown: Mill Valley, CA
What do you miss the most about your hometown when you’re at U.Va.?
The beach! My pup. My family. San Francisco fog!
What drew you to the Women’s Center and your program?
I knew a few Women’s Center interns through WGS classes I’d taken throughout my first 3 years and also through my involvement with One Less at U.Va. I knew the Women’s Center was doing lots of cool work surrounding issues I really care about and I decided I wanted to get involved.
What’s something you know you do differently than most people?
I love mornings! Most days I’m up and moving by 7 or 8 a.m. The tradeoff is that my brain kind of shuts down around 6 p.m. You’ll almost never catch me in the library after dark.
Tell us about the most influential woman in your life.
My mom. She rocks. Supportive, wise, hilarious, and smart. She’s the first person I go to if I need advice and the best person to call if I want to laugh. All that AND she lets me borrow her clothes.
If you had access to a time machine where and when would you go?
I spent last semester in Siena, Italy. I could go for a gelato right about now…
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
“Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you.” – Anne Lamott
