Get to know Women, Girls and Global Justice intern, Makayla Palazzo!
What do you miss the most about your hometown when you’re at U.Va?
There are a lot of things I miss about Okinawa when I’m at UVA, since it’s so different. I think most of all I miss the food and the tropical beaches.
Why did you apply to be an intern at the U.Va. Women’s Center?
I applied to intern at the Women’s Center because I liked the idea of a space that promotes a healthy environment for feminism and support for women.
What’s something you know you do differently than most people?
I do a lot of things differently than most people because I grew up overseas. One thing is that I don’t have a license for the US and I only know how to drive on the left side of the road.
What’s your favorite U.Va. tradition?
I don’t have a favorite UVA tradition, but I streaked the lawn a couple times back when the Rotunda wasn’t under construction.
If you had access to a time machine, where and when would you go?
If I had a time machine, I would travel back and forth between the present and the near future so that I could profit from predicting events like horse races and the stock market.
What’s a fun fact you’d like people to know about you?
I speak four languages – English, French, Spanish, and Japanese.
