Get to know Women, Girls & Global Justice intern, Laura Bredar!

Year: 3rd
Major: Global Development Studies & English, French Minor
Hometown: Denver, CO

1. Why are you passionate about your program at the Women’s Center
I feel that this program enables UVA women to get involved with local, national, and global issues facing women in the world today. For me, it’s so important to think about the world outside of the UVA bubble and how the privilege I’m fortunate enough to experience in my life and at this university doesn’t extend to all other women in the world. My program at the Women’s Center helps me, if only in a small way, make a slight shift toward a more equitable world.

2. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I have no idea! There are many paths I’d like to take, but if I could be working on some initiative/project to combat human sex trafficking locally or internationally, I think that would be gratifying.

3. What other organizations are you involved with at UVA?
I take classes and do performances through the Dance Department, I’m a research assistant in the Curry School, I’m in the French Club, and I’m in a sorority.

4. What is your favorite memory of UVA thus far?
It’s hard to pick one, but I had several great memories with my RA staff last year, including when we all dressed as each other for Halloween.

5. What is something you know you do differently than other people?
I don’t think this is very interesting, but I rarely plan essays or papers before I write them. I just start writing.

6. What is your guilty pleasure?
Almond croissants, or really any French food.
