Iris Magazine invited members of the UVA community to attend a pop-up photo gallery at OpenGrounds. The "Every Body has a Story to Tell" exhibit focused on the relationships women have with their bodies, giving them the opportunity to be photographed in a way they wanted to be seen. As a result of the hard work of our Gender Violence and Social Change team, the Women’s Center sponsored events all through October in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

In the United States today, women make up an estimated 47 percent of the workforce. In the science and engineering field, however, women are far less represented than men. According to the National Girls Collaborative Project, women hold only 25 percent of occupations in computer and mathematical sciences, and only 13 percent of occupations in engineering.

The interns and staff of the Women, Girls and Global Justice program at the Maxine Platzer Lynn Women’s Center sponsored a series of events on the Grounds of the University of Virginia throughout the month of March in honor of International Women’s Month (IWM).
The month of events was inspired by International Women’s Day on March 8. The Center intends for this month of themed events to be an annual tradition. The following are recaps of each event.

The UVA Women’s Center is pleased to announce that nominations are now being accepted for the 2016 Elizabeth Zintl Leadership Award. The award is presented in memory of Elizabeth Zintl, an accomplished writer and journalist who served as Chief of Staff in the Office of the President at the University of Virginia.

What began at the Maxine Platzer Lynn Women’s Center as a project to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy has now evolved into a year-long partnership with the local non-profit Monticello Area Community Action Agency’s (MACAA) Hope House program.
