Legal Clinic team, Victoria Farris, Hannah Lyons, and Sarah Steele

From left to right: Victoria Farris (intern), Hannah Lyons (intern), Sarah Steele (supervisor)

The Legal Clinic is one of the programs at the Women's Center through which interns are mentored by members of our staff in social justice advocacy work on one of several themes. Several of our staff-intern teams have developed traditions for interns to take on a additional leadership within their teams over time and we love seeing how the investment they make in doing so pays off for them and for their teams.

Sarah Steele holds the keys to the Women’s Center’s heart – and its doors and filing cabinets and every administrative undertaking. The first face you see when you walk in the Center (or at least that’s when Sarah’s receptionist desk faced the front door at the Corner location, before we had to move for an office overhaul), Sarah is the essence of calm, caring friendliness and impeccable professionalism. What’s more, she’s wicked smart and could run circles ‘round us in Russian and other subjects.

In the long run, the level of attention brought to the issue of sexual assault nationally and locally over the past couple of years is bound to be a good thing. While difficult discussions and decisions continue to be broached in the public arena and in the private settings in which survivors seek formal services and informal support, here are just a couple of points of agreement that can help to ground us all. One thing we know is that the long run is likely to be quite long indeed in coming.
