Tips for Better Sleep

Getting enough high quality sleep is the one of the best things you can do for your brain and body. No matter what is going on in terms of mood, energy, memory or emotions, sufficient sleep will almost always help. Sleep also does wonders for new learning. Wresting the last few minutes you can out of a day can be very tempting, but the cost in terms of fatigue and forgetfulness the next day is higher than you think.

Everyone struggles with stress and anxiety sometimes. We are biologically programmed to assess for threat related to safety, both in our physical environment and in our relationships.

In small doses, it is a good thing. If a car runs a red light just as we are about to cross the street, anxiety helps activate the muscles needed to jump out of the way. If our partner is sick, we will feel stressed and worried because we need stable, connected relationships to feel safe.

Anytime there is a big change in a daily schedule, it is good to be aware that mental and emotional adjustments may be needed. In addition, everyone has different needs. Some people need to use the summer time for a stress break and take it easy. Others need to use this time to work for financial needs as well as experience for future employment. Others may use this time to travel, either for education or for enjoyment- sometimes both.
