Body Groove - The truth shall set you free!
Sunday, March 15, 2009
6:30-8:30pm
Aquatic & Fitness Center Gymnasium

Discussion, Movement, Inspiration ... Do you love every inch of your body? Misty Tripoli, International Nike Elite Instructor, and recovering bulimic, obsessive compulsive over-eater and exerciser, will inspire you to explore the truth about your body: how you judge it, move it, nurture it and appreciate it.  Misty will discuss the alluring trap of the illusive “perfect body” and how it affects the mind, body and spirit.  Learn easy ideas and techniques that will help cultivate a positive relationship, acceptance and understanding to YOUR body and how to inspire others to do the same.  Come dressed comfortably and be prepared to laugh out loud and find your unique groove. Contact Erica Perkins at elp2z@virginia.edu for more information!

Festival of the Book 2009
Friday, March 20, 2009
2:00-3:00pm
The Women’s Center sponsors writer Peach Friedman, author of Diary of an Exercise Addict
Rotunda, Dome Room (Book Signing, 3:00 p.m., Oval Room)

Peach FriedmanIn 2000, Peach Friedman was a college senior. When she broke up with her boyfriend, she set out to beat the blues by beating herself into shape. Running several miles a day and taking in little food, she lost an unhealthy amount of weight and was at serious risk of cardiac arrest. What Peach suffered from was exercise bulimia—a newly diagnosed and rapidly spreading eating disorder that affects some 400,000 American women.

During her talk, Peach will read from Diary of an Exercise Addict and will discuss her experiences with an eating disorder, her recovery, consequences of a weight and fitness obsessed culture, and how to create a healthier environment. Peach is a spokesperson for the National Eating Disorders Association and is a personal fitness trainer who works with people recovering from eating disorders.

Body Groove and the Peach Friedman event both fulfill the Fraternity and Sorority Life FOA educational requirement. Visit this page for more information.
