The 2007 Rinehart guest speaker is U.Va. alumna Kristin van Ogtrop, managing editor of Real Simple magazine. Kristin van Ogtrop was named Real Simple’s managing editor in March 2003. Under her leadership, the magazine has achieved popular and critical acclaim, consistently experiencing double-digit circulation growth, to 1.9 million in 2006. In her four years at Real Simple, van Ogtrop has overseen the development and launch of three international editions, five books, two product lines sold exclusively at Target, and a weekly PBS show. She also led the re-launch of realsimple.com. Before joining Real Simple, van Ogtrop was executive editor of Glamour. Previously she worked as senior features editor at Vogue, features editor at Travel & Leisure and senior editor at Premiere. During her career, van Ogtrop has made numerous broadcast appearances on programs such as NBC’s Today, ABC’s Good Morning America, The View, Live! with Regis and Kelly, and CNN. Van Ogtrop received a B.A. in English from the University of Virginia and an M.A. in English from Columbia University.
