The Beverly Cobble Rodriguez Lectureship is an annual lecture on women’s education and global leadership with a special emphasis on healthcare, multi-national business, and the liberal arts.

This year, we are pleased to announce that Rachel Zaslow, Executive Director of Mother Health International will be joining us as our 2017 lecturer. At Mother Health International, Rachel works to reduce perinatal mortality rates through the education of midwives and creation of sustainable birth centers in areas where the burden of mortality is highest.

Why Do Women Die? Maternal Mortality from Northern Uganda to Charlottesville

Most deaths from childbirth are preventable. Yet a woman somewhere around the world dies from childbirth every minute. The solutions that are currently in place are proving to be ineffective on a global scale.

Join us as we unpack this global problem.

  • Why women of color are dying at alarming rates
  • The intersection of race, culture, and maternal health
  • The history of aid and humanitarian response
  • How community-based interventions save women’s lives
