For the first time in its 25-year history, the Women’s Center was able to make a digital library catalog available to the public at the conclusion of the 2015 Spring Semester. Please visit the library’s Goodreads profile to browse all of the books and other resources that we have to offer. With more than 2,800 volumes, library materials span several categories pertaining to gender issues.
Please note: Patrons are able to peruse the library online, but check-out is in-person only.
The namesake of the Library: Jill T. Rinehart
Jill T. Rinehart (1920-2014) was a founding member of the Women’s Center Council along with myriad leadership roles in which she served throughout her life. Having studied at Smith College in the late 1930s, Jill returned to college many years later and graduated from the University of Virginia in 1980 earning a bachelor’s degree in government, with honors. Following Jill’s death in October of 2014, her tireless service was celebrated by many around the University and the surrounding community. Read our November 2014 blog post in Jill’s memory here.
Iris Magazine archive
Iris Magazine is the Center’s award-winning, nationally acclaimed magazine for thinking young women at U.Va. and beyond. After trying on several looks—from a photocopied newsletter for the U.Va. Women’s Studies Program to a national journal for women — Iris recently re-debuted as a web magazine for and about thinking young women. Check out print editions of the magazine dating from 1980 to 2012 in the Library.
