The Jill T. Rinehart Library at the Women's Center has existed for almost ten years and is currently located at the front of the building. As you walk in the Women's Center doors, you are standing in the library.

Working to fill a niche the large research libraries on Grounds do not fill, the library has focused its holdings on four core areas of interest to all members of the University community. These four "niches" are Eating Disorders & Body Image, Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault, Women's Health Concerns, and Lifespan Issues. Lifespan Issues include identity (gender, culture, ethnicity, self esteem, emotional IQ), adolescence and puberty, establishing relationships (friendships, dating, sex and intimacy, and community involvement), higher education and career development, family issues (marriage, reproduction, working parents, single parents, divorce, childcare, taking care of the older generation), and aging (menopause, loss of loved ones, grief).

The UVa Women's Center maintains a list of UVa students who provide childcare. This is a very popular resource for community members and University employees. For more information, contact Sue Gerrans at 982-2361 or sjg3h@virginia.edu.

The childcare list is updated each fall and spring semester and can either be mailed to you or picked up at the Center. Through word-of-mouth, the Inter-Sorority Council, and flyers placed around the University, undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to stop by the Center and fill out an application. Recipients of the list will be supplied with the following information on each childcare provider: phone numbers, foreign languages spoken, hobbies and interests, whether they have their own transportation, age preferences, hours of availability, and child care experience. Please note that we do not conduct screening interviews or background checks on any childcare provider listed, and as such the Women's Center is released from liability. It is the responsibility of the parents to negotiate terms and pay rates.

The Free Legal Clinic offers professional legal advice to University staff, faculty, and community members. During the academic year, the clinic will be held every third Tuesday of the month from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Clinics are not held during the summer. For more information or to schedule a half-hour appointment, please call 434-982-2361 or contact Sue Gerrans, sjg3h@virginia.edu.
