YWLP empowers girls and women to be leaders by pairing a middle school "Little Sister" with a UVa college student "Big Sister" for a year, and by providing a curriculum of targeted group activities.
The Young Women Leaders Program is proud to announce that it has been chosen to receive the Outstanding Mentoring Program Award by the Virginia Mentoring Partnership.
Co-sponsored with the Curry School of Education, the Young Women Leaders Program is a year-long mentoring program that focuses on promoting middle school girls' leadership abilities. Local 7th grade girls who would like to participate are paired with U.Va undergraduate women to work on exploring how women and girls can best reach their leadership potential.
YWLP is directed by Edith 'Winx' Lawrence, Ph.D., professor and clinical psychologist at the Curry School of Education and Jennifer Merritt, Ph.D., Director of the Diversity and Advocacy Program at the Women's Center.
