Get to know Body Positive team intern, Peaches!

Year: 2nd
Major: Women Gender & Sexuality Studies and Statistics
Hometown: Pittsburgh, PA

1. Why are you passionate about your program at the Women's Center?
Body image is something that affects everyone, regardless of gender, age, race, etc. It looks different for each person, but it is something that is often inescapable, which is why it is so important to address! Being a body positive intern has allowed me the opportunity to share what I’m passionate about in so many new ways, and introduced me to so many amazing people.

2. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I’d be almost thirty, which is crazy to think about, but hopefully with a lot of dogs and doing something that I’m passionate about, ideally working in the realm of women’s reproductive health.

3. What other organizations are you involved with at UVA?
I am the president of Hereford’s Student Senate, a Peer Health Educator, and a member of UFUSED (United for Undergraduate Socioeconomic Diversity).

4. What is your favorite memory of UVA thus far?
My favorite memory was Valentine’s Day this year, actually. I love Valentine’s Day, and this year was special because I got to deliver the Body Project with my co-interns. The Body Project helps provide strategies on how to fight back against societal pressures to conform to the appearance ideal, so it was just a day full of love, for others and ourselves!

5. What is something you know you do differently than other people?
It’s not something I actively do differently every day, but I know I never want to get married or have kids, so that leads to navigating many social situations in a unique way.

6. What is your guilty pleasure?
Pleasure should never be guilty! But, I love Thin Mints like nobody’s business. I count down the days until Girl Scout Cookies go on sale every year, and I buy an obscene amount of them.
