Through the Office of the Provost, the Women's Center has recently received funding for an education outreach/prevention specialist for the Gender Violence and Social Change program, as well as a full-time counselor in residence with experience in trauma. We especially thank the Women's Leadership Council - the President's Advisory Committee on women's concerns - and Marcus Martin, the Vice President for Diversity and Equity.

At the Maxine Platzer Lynn Women’s Center, we are hearing from members of the University community who are confused by the ongoing media attention. Please note: False reports are extremely rare. According to a 2010 report, False Allegations of Sexual Assault: An Analysis of Ten Years of Reported Cases, about 2-10 percent of all reports are false.

The National Eating Disorders Association Walk of Charlottesville continues to surpass prior years with raising about $10,000 this year, according to coordinator Clare Brady. The amount raised in 2013 was about $9,000 and about $7,000 in 2012.

Fourth-year student Kathryn Reichel wanted to give back to the community who supported her during a difficult time at U.Va.

“The Women’s Center helped me recover from my eating disorder when I was a First-Year,” she said. “I took time off [...] I came back after I had recovered, and was like, ‘I need to give back to other people.’ That’s what kind of inspired me to start working here.”
