Domestic Violence Awareness Month Comes to a Close with Red Flag Week

Dozens of T-shirts lined the perimeter of the Lawn  in the last week of October, designed with messages like, “It’s my childhood.  Don’t rush me.” and “Love shouldn’t hurt.”

Jill Tietsort Rinehart of Charlottesville died on Saturday, October 18, 2014.

The only child of John D. Tietsort and Edith Brisben Tietsort, she was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 14, 1920.

A trailblazer for women's opportunities and leadership, a dedicated public servant, supporter of the arts, realtor and avid gardener, Jill met each phase of her life with a strong and principled enthusiasm.

Second-year student in the College of Arts & Sciences, Tricia O’Donnell, attended last year’s Perfect Illusions event on a whim, but this year, as a Body Positive intern at the Maxine Platzer Lynn Women’s Center, there is no way she will miss it.

“I was initially reluctant because it seemed intimidating,” O’Donnell said, “but I decided last minute to show up. I am so glad I did, because it was very inspiring and powerful.

Family Weekend to the third annual Mother-Daughter Tea on Oct. 31 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This is a fun, informative and inspirational event to engage those “who have a valuable role in supporting body positivity with their children.”

Big Sisters and Little Sisters of the Young Women Leaders Program are gearing up for their annual food drive on Oct. 19 from noon to 4 p.m. at Kroger locations in Charlottesville - on 1159 Emmett Street, in the Barracks Road Shopping Center, and on 1904 Emmett Street.

YWLP will be collecting non-perishable food items that supporters may conveniently purchase that day or that they bring from home.

As someone who has given to the Maxine Platzer Lynn Women’s Center for the most consecutive amount of years, Nesta Ramazani is one of the Center’s most esteemed donors. In its 25th anniversary year, the Women’s Center would like to recognize Ramazani’s continuous support by highlighting her here on our website.

Ramazani first found out about the Women’s Center at a social event in which she met Director Sharon Davie.
