Are you a UVA student looking to get involved with the Women's Center?
The Volunteer Corps is a great opportunity for UVA students to give back to the Women’s Center. Volunteers support the Women’s Center by preparing outreach materials, promoting Women’s Center events, hosting socials, and supporting the needs of the interns and staff of the center. Volunteers are also invited to provide feedback to help the center best meet students’ needs and interests.
Ultimately, the Volunteer Corps is the face of the Women’s Center to the UVA community, and their work helps to:
- Connect UVA students with resources available at the Women’s Center to help students become aware of gender equity issues both on Grounds and in the global community.
- Broaden Women’s Center outreach and its message through wider student body inclusivity.
Corps members actively participate in and promote all of the resources that the Women’s Center offers. In order to amplify our reach, Corps members are asked to follow our social media channels and actively engage with our posts. Corps members also selflessly commit to service work at the Center by partnering with interns and staff to complete annual projects. Lastly, Corps members serve as advocates for change within the University community.
There is an interest meeting for volunteers shortly after the start of the academic year, but students are welcome to join the Corps any time by emailing the Volunteer Engagement Leader, Leah Carroll
Volunteer support for summer projects is often needed, too. If you are a UVA student spending the summer in Charlottesville and would like to help, please contact the Volunteer Engagement Leader about that via email as well.
Looking for ways to help as a UVA alum, faculty or staff member, or friend in the Charlottesville community?
While most of our hands-on volunteer needs are fulfilled by UVA students, sharing information about the resources and opportunities we offer is an easy and helpful way for UVA alumni, faculty and staff members, and friends in the Charlottesville community to support our work. Follow us on your preferred social media channels and help members of the UVA community in your networks learn about how we can all work together toward a just and equitable place to work and learn at UVA.
The Women's Center's Free Legal Clinic is always looking for Charlottesville-area attorneys interested in sharing their time and knowledge with local people in need of information about common legal issues. The time commitment is flexible and attorneys can make a difference through the clinic by volunteering just a few evenings a year. Contact us at 434-982-2250 or [email protected] for more information.
