What brought you to the Women's Center?
After taking my first WGS class here at UVA, I felt inspired by some of the feminist topics in which we studied and felt inclined to put my learning into practice. Former Women's Center Interns came to speak to our class and shared their experiences with the Center as one's of connection, growth, and positivity. I was then inspired to immerse myself in this diverse community, eager to learn from others around me and to grow as a person and as a professional. I could not be happier with the decision that I made.
What is your favorite memory at UVA so far?
My favorite memory at UVA so far has been living with my best friends. I have lived with the same roommates for two years now and I could not imagine my UVA experience without them.
Who is a woman that inspires you and why?
Maggie Rogers inspires me daily. I am in constant awe of her songwriting and artistry through her music. One thing that I love about her is that she uses her platform to advocate for social issues that matter to her. I've been to two of her concerts now and cannot wait to someday go back for a third and hopefully many more.
What is one thing you do after a stressful day?
I love to practice yoga. Whether that is in a group class or simply practicing breathing exercises and hand-stands in my apartment, I find peace by moving my body and finding my footing throughout the poses.
How does your work at the Women's Center motivate you?
The work that I do here at the Women's Center motivates me because I know that I am making an impact on the community. On the social media team, we prioritize highlighting as many different communities and groups across the University that we can on our pages. Thus, this experience has opened my eyes and has allowed me to engage with others in ways I would not have otherwise experienced. Beyond social media, I enjoy feeling connected to something bigger than myself. Everyone who conducts work here at the Center has something to teach me and that learning process has been incredible to witness within myself.
What is a podcast/TV show/movie/book/song that's grabbed your attention recently?
"Anywhere With You" by Maggie Rogers
