1. What brought you to the Women's Center?
I knew about the Women's Center and the support events they host on grounds and wanted to find a way to get more involved. When the opportunity to intern for MLP arose, I thought - this could be it! I've been very involved since and I have loved every minute of it.
2. What is your favorite memory of UVA so far?
My favorite UVA memory has to be Lighting of the Lawn. While the cold and dark can seem intimidating, the energy is electric. It feels like all of UVA comes out to celebrate a semester's worth of hard work, and it is such a heartwarming event.
3. Who is a woman that inspires you?
My grandmother inspires me. Her motto "retired but not tired" reflects how she chooses to live her life. As an educator in Kibra for over 30 years, she still enjoys going out into the community and empowering the youth and selflessly dedicates her time and energy to the betterment of her people. She reminds me to always treat others with kindness, to have empathy, and most importantly to lead by example.
4. What is one thing you do after a stressful day?
After a stressful day, I grab my speaker, open Spotify, pick a vibey playlist and make a new meal. I love to cook from scratch- it's very relaxing (send meal inspo my way)!
5. How does your work at the Women's Center motivate you?
The work that I do at the Women's Center motivates me daily. It inspires me to go out into the communities I interact with and serve intentionally. Serving others and giving up my time and skills on behalf of a community that needs it the most/can benefit from it is such a privilege and I am honored to be a part of that vision. Inspiring not only women but everyone in the community; everyone can benefit from our services. Overall, the Women's Center has some of the most genuine and selfless individuals working to make their lives and the lives of others better every day and that motivates me to be a better intern and human being.
6. What is a podcast/TV show/book, etc. that's grabbed your attention recently?
I am OBSESSED with Modern Family. 12/10 show. Also I've been re-listening to YEBBA and a lot of her work (her tiny desk is insane).
